Calbee+ in Tokyo (Tokyo): Fresh-Fried Potato Chips at Calbee's Own Shop in Tokyo Station
Quick answer
- Calbee+ is Calbee's own shop, where potato chips are fried in front of you; in Tokyo (Tokyo), the shop is at Tokyo Station, B1, in front of the Yaesu Underground Central Gate, outside the ticket gates.
- The shop is open 9:00 to 21:00, but fresh-fried food is served 9:00 to 19:30, and fresh-fried potato chips 9:30 to 19:00.
- Some orders can take more than 30 minutes, and the shops don't sell everyday products such as regular Jagarico or potato chips.

Calbee is the company behind many of the potato chips you see in every Japanese convenience store, and Calbee+ (Calbee Plus) is its own shop, where staff fry potato chips and other snacks in front of you and serve them hot. In Tokyo (Tokyo), the one Calbee+ shop on Calbee's official list is at Tokyo Station, just outside the Yaesu Underground Central Gate. This guide sets out, from Calbee's official pages and the station shopping street's own guide, where the shop is, when the fresh-fried food is served, what's on the menu, and what to know before you order.
If you have only a short wait between trains, it's natural to wonder whether a hot snack is worth the detour. The shop sits right by a ticket gate, so knowing the serving times ahead makes it easy to fit in.

What Calbee+ is
Calbee says the first Calbee+ opened in Harajuku (Tokyo) in December 2011, after an idea from an in-house planning contest: fresh-fried potato chips simply taste good, and the company wanted customers to try them. The chips are made by hand from raw potatoes, not frozen ones, in the same steps as at Calbee's factories, and Calbee invites you to peek into the kitchen as if you were on a factory tour. Besides potato chips, the shops make Poterico, a snack born from Calbee's popular Jagarico, and Potato Churros, a churro made from potatoes.
As of October 2026, the official shop list has no shop in Harajuku (Tokyo), so in Tokyo (Tokyo) the place to go is the Tokyo Station shop.
The Tokyo Station shop: where it is
The shop is on basement floor 1 (B1) of Tokyo Station Ichibangai, the shopping street on the Yaesu side of Tokyo Station, in its sweets area (Tokyo Okashi Land). Calbee gives the access as "in front of the Yaesu Underground Central Gate", and Tokyo Station Ichibangai says it's inside the station but outside the ticket gates, a short walk from every Yaesu-side gate for both the shinkansen and the regular JR lines. You don't need a train ticket to visit.
| Tokyo Station shop | On the official pages |
|---|---|
| Address | Tokyo Station Ichibangai B1, 1-9-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda (Tokyo) |
| Access | In front of the Yaesu Underground Central Gate (outside the ticket gates) |
| Phone | 03-6273-4341 |
| Payment | Cash, credit cards, e-money and code payments |
Tokyo Station Ichibangai also has coin lockers, and its service guide says you can check online which lockers are free, which helps if you're carrying a suitcase. For paying by card or IC card in Japan in general, see our guide to cash and IC cards.
Opening hours and fresh-fried times
The shop itself is open from 9:00 to 21:00, but the hot food has shorter hours. Calbee's shop list says the fresh-fried menu is served from 9:00 to 19:30, and the fresh-fried potato chips from 9:30 to 19:00. Some items may not be available, depending on the supply that day. Tokyo Station Ichibangai adds that its hours can change, and points to its top page for the latest.
What's on the menu
Calbee posts each shop's menu as a PDF, with names in Japanese and English. The Tokyo Station menu dated October 2026 lists, among others:
- Fresh-fried potato chips: Happy Butter Deluxe; Pizza Potato Supreme with more cheese; Consomme Punch, made fresh; and two flavors sold only at this shop: Happy Butter Deluxe with Soft Ice Cream and Salt & Broth from Bonito Flakes.
- Poterico: Poterico Salad, and the larger BIG Poterico Special Potato Salad Flavor, sold only at this shop.
- Other snacks: Potato Churros (salt flavor), sweet potato fries (a new, limited-time item on that menu) and Hokkaido soft ice cream.
- Drinks: soft drinks and draft beer.
The menu adds two notes for families. The two Happy Butter Deluxe items use honey, so don't give them to babies under 1. For BIG Poterico and Poterico Salad, the menu gives the age as from about 4, and asks that children chew well so they don't choke, with an adult watching small children while they eat.
When the shop reopened in December 2022, Calbee said the larger floor gave it a live kitchen with a 180-degree view, so you can watch the snacks being made.
Ordering and waiting
Calbee's shop list warns that, depending on what's ordered, orders may not come out in the order they were placed, and that it can take more than 30 minutes to get your food. If you have a train to catch, order early or pick up a packaged snack instead. The menu also notes that the tax rate is different if you eat inside the shop, so the price can depend on whether you eat there or take your food away. For where eating on the move is and isn't fine in Japan, see our guide to eating while walking.
Packaged snacks to take home
Calbee+ shops also sell packaged snacks made for the shops. Calbee's English page describes them as light, in many small packets, and handy as small gifts. Tokyo Station Ichibangai says the Tokyo Station shop sells premium potato snacks found only at Calbee+, a Tokyo Station-only kettle chips flavor with bonito broth and salt, and a Tokyo Station-only box that you can fill with regional Jagarico flavors.
One thing to know: Calbee's English page says the shops don't sell the everyday products such as Kappa Ebisen, regular Jagarico and regular potato chips; buy those at a convenience store or supermarket. For more gift ideas, see souvenirs from Japan.
Food allergies
The Tokyo Station menu marks the allergens in each item, and says the food menu is made in a facility shared with products containing a long list of allergens, including egg, milk, wheat, shrimp, crab, walnuts, almonds, cashews, sesame, soy, beef, pork, chicken and fish. If you have an allergy, ask the staff before you order; our guide to food allergies in Japan has phrases and tips.
