Osaka (Osaka) has two big centers, Umeda (Osaka) in the north and Namba (Osaka) in the south, plus the Tennoji area further south. This guide covers two Marriott Bonvoy hotels I have stayed at, which suit very different trips: W Osaka (Osaka), a stylish hotel near Shinsaibashi Station, and the Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel at the top of Abeno Harukas in Tennoji. It ends with a tip for your luggage after checkout. Facts come from the official pages; the "My visit" notes are my own experience.

  • Namba (Osaka) and Shinsaibashi (Osaka) for food and shopping; Tennoji for the zoo, Tsutenkaku and the views
  • The W hotel: 3 minutes from Shinsaibashi Station, with an indoor pool
  • Osaka Marriott Miyako: guest rooms on the 38th to 55th floors of Abeno Harukas
  • After checkout: coin lockers at Namba Station, and a luggage-storage option

Which area to stay in

Osaka (Osaka) charges an accommodation tax per night: see the accommodation tax in Osaka (Osaka).

The Midosuji subway line runs north to south: Shinsaibashi Station, Namba Station, Dobutsuen-mae and Tennoji. The W hotel is 3 minutes on foot from Shinsaibashi Station. Namba Station has coin lockers. Tsutenkaku Tower is 6 minutes on foot from Exit 1 of Dobutsuen-mae Station. The Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel is in Abeno Harukas, directly connected to Kintetsu's Abenobashi Station and about 3 minutes on foot from JR Tennoji Station. W Osaka (Osaka)

The W is on Midosuji avenue at 4-1-3 Minamisemba, Chuo-ku. The city's official tourism site lists it as a 3-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station on the Midosuji Line, and Namba (Osaka) is one stop south.

Good to know: W is one of the brands that Marriott's program terms treat differently for some elite benefits, such as lounge access, so check what applies when you book.

Who it suits: adults and couples who want a lively, design-led hotel close to the Shinsaibashi (Osaka) and Namba (Osaka) shopping streets.

My visit

The W is a pop, urban hotel. At night the bar and the pool are lit up, and the atmosphere is superb. In my view it's more for adults and couples, and it's easy to reach from Namba (Osaka) too.

About tattoos: at some Marriott hotels, often as a holdover from the hotel's earlier rules, you may be asked to cover tattoos at the pool. When I checked with the W, they told me their pool has no particular rule like that. Rules can change, so if this matters to you, confirm with the hotel before you book. For how tattoos are handled at baths in Japan, see onsen and sento manners.

Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel

The Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel occupies the upper floors of Abeno Harukas. Its official access page gives the address as 1-1-43 Abenosuji, Abeno-ku, directly connected to Kintetsu's Abenobashi Station and about 3 minutes on foot from JR Tennoji Station. The front desk is on the 19th floor and the guest rooms are on the 38th to 55th floors.

Good to know: from Namba (Osaka), the Midosuji Line reaches Tennoji in about 6 minutes (from the Osaka Metro timetable). For lounge access as an elite member, confirm with the hotel, because its lounge page names Club Room and Suite guests.

Who it suits: families and anyone who wants a high-floor view, the zoo or Tsutenkaku Tower close by, and direct train access.

My visit

We stayed here on a family trip for my child's birthday. I booked a cake through the chat in the Marriott Bonvoy app; the cake shop was already closed for the day when I asked, so the hotel called me back the next day right away. As a kind gesture, the hotel also gave us an Abeno Bear gift and tickets for the Abeno Harukas observatory. That was the hotel's kindness, not something you can count on every time.

As a Platinum Elite member I could use the lounge, which is large, with breakfast and afternoon tea. Tennoji is a little far from Namba (Osaka); if you are coming from Tsutenkaku Tower, a taxi is convenient.

After checkout: coin lockers at Namba Station

Osaka Metro's Namba Station guide lists coin lockers among the station's facilities. If they are full, a luggage-storage service is another option, such as Radical Storage's list of places in Osaka (Osaka) (affiliate link), where shops and other businesses keep bags for a fee.

My visit

When I spend the day in Namba (Osaka), I leave my bags in the big coin-locker areas at the station after checkout. To find them again, I always save the location and the locker's letter-and-number code, as a note or a photo.

Marriott Bonvoy member benefits

On its Platinum Elite page (checked October 5, 2026), Marriott lists a welcome gift on arrival (points, a breakfast offering or an amenity, varying by brand), lounge access with breakfast at brands that have lounges, and 4 p.m. late checkout. What you actually get depends on the brand and the hotel; what I describe above is my own experience, so check with the hotel.

Before you book

  1. Choose by plan: Namba (Osaka) for food and nightlife, Tennoji for the zoo, Tsutenkaku and views.
  2. Budget for the city's accommodation tax.
  3. Check the pool and lounge rules that matter to you with the hotel.
  4. Plan where your bags go after checkout.

Our Osaka (Osaka) page also has a night time-lapse I took from a high floor of The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka (Osaka). Coming from the east? See where I stayed in Nagoya (Aichi) and in Kyoto (Kyoto).
