Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll and friends are everywhere in Japan, but if you want genuine goods, a wide selection and the things you can't get at home, it helps to know where Sanrio's own shops are. This guide uses Sanrio's official store search to point you to the main types of official shops, a few big locations in our destinations, the shops at Sanrio's two theme parks, and the local-only "Gotochi Kitty" series. A campaign for visitors: Sanrio has announced that from October 8 to 31, 2026, travelers living outside Japan who spend 11,000 yen (tax included) or more in one purchase at participating shops can get an eco bag. Not all shops take part, and it doesn't apply online.

Theme parks

Gotochi Kitty: local-only Hello Kitty

Sanrio's official news describes Gotochi Kitty, a regional series begun in 1998 that combines Hello Kitty with the local specialties, culture, scenery and history of places across Japan. The goods are made by Asunaro-sha under license from Sanrio and sold in local souvenir shops, stations and airports. Its official site lists shops. More in souvenirs from Japan.

Online and fakes

Buying genuine goods How to buy genuine Sanrio goods In Japan: buy at official Sanrio shops, theme parks or well-known stores. Online: Sanrio's Japanese online shop delivers in Japan only; its overseas shop delivers to a short list of countries. Be careful with unusually cheap goods from unknown sellers: they may be fakes. IN JAPANOfficial shops, parks,well-known stores ONLINEJapan shop: Japandelivery only CAREFULVery cheap goods fromunknown sellers
Based on Sanrio's official online shop delivery guide and its overseas shop FAQ (checked October 4, 2026).

Sanrio's Japanese online shop says it delivers within Japan only. Sanrio also runs an overseas online shop, but its FAQ lists only a few countries it currently delivers to (Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, the Philippines and South Africa). For most visitors, the best plan is to buy in Japan. Character goods are often copied, so buy from official shops or well-known stores.
